So much to say

My step daughter, Katie, helped me get the blog up and running. This seems to be a good way to keep friends updated on the happenings.

Tonight our family attended an early Christmas Eve service. I felt the magic of Christmas through the reading, music and carols.   We know that our God is a mighty God, who came to earth thru the birth of baby Jesus.

The past several weeks have been difficult for me and my family. On December 15, 2010 I had a tumor removed from my right breast...... breast cancer, stage 3 were the words I heard on December 20th.
My son, Andy, flew in from California to be here for support with his brother Kevin and my husband Joe.
I have a fast growing cancer so I will begin 20 weeks of chemotherapy on Jan 10 to reduce the size and spread of the cancer, followed by a mastectomy, followed with radiation.  I have had many diagnostic tests this week also to make sure it hasn't spread in my body. I pray for a negative report.... no cancer in other parts of my body.

I am richly blessed with a loving family and friends. Thank you for all your prayers, words of encouragement, smiles, and hugs.  Have a Merry Christmas. Love, Martha

Aside from the shock of getting this news, and recovering from the surgery, I feel good. I had been full of energy, swimming 3 times a week and enjoying life until I found the lump on a self exam.

  1. Beautifully written, Martha. I was so sad to hear of your diagnosis. I have no doubt that you will face this life challenge with all of the dignity and grace that you have accepted all of life's uncertainties. Whatever prayers or encouragement I can proffer will be provided; please know that we wish you a speedy recovery as you venture ahead. So glad that your boys will be with you during this holiday season. Be well. Carol
